Zephyr, a solar-powered aircraft made by UK launched from US, made a new endurance record for unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) Friday from Arizona.
After the success of the flight of a Swiss solar-powered aircraft another milestone being recorded by an autopilot aerial vehicle built by UK.
The successful seven days flight of Zephyr was another history in the making for the aviation technology.
Earlier this month, the first pilot to use the solar-powered plane, Andre Borschberg successfully landed the plane from its overnight flight.
However, the launched of the autopilot solar-powered plane took off from Arizona at the US Army‘s Yuma Proving Ground, doing well on its soaring to the sky in a continuous seven days of air travel.
It had a goal to beaten up the staying power of the official record holder for UAV, was been set by the US robot named Global Hawk gaining the record of 30 hours and 24 minutes continuous flight.
On the other hand, the record had beaten by Zephyr, the solar plane already recorded 83 hours of continuous soaring in the skies. At first, there are no representatives from the Federation Aeronautique Internationale (FAI) to witness the Zephyr’s proceedings.
However, representatives of the FAI are now in Yuma to award the official world record to Zephyr, as they followed the rules and regulations provided by FAI to achieved the record.
The makers of the plane say the success was completely different for the aviation technology, and at the same time, it is totally different to what already existed in our society.
The success of this technology will be a great help for people to the development of solar–powered plane designs, with a goal of taking the plane into the sky with no fuel to be used on its flight with the use of solar energy coming from the sun.
