Venezuela, Columbia Presidents to Meet on Saturday

Venezuela, Columbia Presidents

Hugo Chavez, the president of Venezuela, and the newly elected Columbian President Juan Manuel Santos will meet on Tuesday to talk about the diplomatic disagreement between the two nations on Saturday.

Last month, Venezuela broke off diplomatic relations with Columbia because of its accusation that Venezuela is protecting the rebels from the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Columbia and the National Liberation Army. Columbia said that these rebels have camps in Venezuela and they are accusing the country that it is protecting these rebels. However, all the allegations of Columbia are denied by Venezuela.

It is considered as the third time in three years that the relations of Columbia and Venezuela have been strained. Hugo Chavez froze their relations with Columbia after it has signed a military arrangement with the U.S. in 2008. During that time, Columbia conducted a raid against the leftist guerillas in the Ecuadorian territory.

The oath taking of Santos will be held last Saturday. He vowed to unify his country with his goals to provide prosperity and to end the leftist rebels in their nation. Nicolas Maduro, foreign minister of Venezuela, to test his diplomatic skills, attended the inauguration of Santos.

Maduro made a talk with his Columbian counterpart, Maria Angela Holguin. He wanted to deliver a positive message from their president. According to the message given by the president of Venezuela, they want to deliver a message of love and solidarity to the Columbian people, a message for the future and for hope. They also said that they want to lend a helping hand to the Columbian people. He said that he invited Santos to go to Caracas and if the president cannot come, he will be the one to go to Bogota. Chavez left a warning that disrespect to Venezuela and another false accusation will end their friendship.
