The Senate called a special session and approved a $600 million bill to stop the flow of illegal immigrants Thursday, and President Obama will sign it into law on Friday.
Furthermore, President Obama had supported Congress to direct more money toward border security among protests from states surrounded by undocumented settlers and illegal drug trafficking. According to the chief sponsor, Senator Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., the measure will offer Janet Napolitano, Homeland Security Secretary, and Obama with the proper perspective and the funds needed to fight the violence and crime.
In addition, President Obama said that the bill will help defend communities across the country and along the border of Southwest. Obama also said that this new law will also support their partnership with Mexico in aiming the organizations of criminal and gangs that work on both sides of their borders.
On the other hand, the House Democrats had also called a special session, calling makers of law to go back from their summer break on Tuesday to approve the bill for border security and a $26 billion aid bill to maintain teachers and other workers publicly from being jobless.
Moreover, Donald Ritchie, Senate historian, said that it was simply the second time since the August break became legitimate policy in 1970 that the Senate had assembled. The first time was after the disaster of Hurricane Katrina in 2005.
The security measure of the border bill will finance the employment of 1,000 new agents of Border Patrol to be positioned at the dangerous places along the border. In addition, 250 more officers of Customs and Border Protection and 250 more agents of Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
Furthermore, nearly one-third of the fund goes to the Justice Department to assist agencies like the DEA, the ATF and the FBI deal with the human traffickers and dealers of drugs.
