Samsung unveils Galaxy Tab

Samsung Galaxy Tab

The South Korean corporation introduces its contribution to the race to fill the gap between a smartphone and a laptop, the Galaxy Tab.

Galaxy runs on Android 2.2; it has a 7-inch touchscreen monitor with a 1024 by 600 pixels resolution. It is equipped with a 1GHz Cortex A8 processor and 16 GB of internal storage.

According to Samsung, although Galaxy has a higher resolution compared to other smarthones running on Android, 85 to 90 percent of the applications available on the Android market is compatible with the tablet. The company also said that it is already in talks with the developers of some of the most popular applications that do not work on the Galaxy to help them convert their applications.

Instead of Active-matrix organic light-emitting diode (AMOLED), which Samsung uses on its smartphones, Galaxy is fitted with a Thin Film Transistor (TFT)-based screen. This is for the tablet to have a longer battery life and lower the cost of the tablet.

The tablet is fitted with a MicroSD slot that can expand its storage capacity up to 32GB.

The Tab has a 1.3-megapixel camera in the front for video calls or conferencing, and a 3-megapixel camera with LED on the back. Galaxy is lighter weighing only 380 grams compared to the iPad that weighs 730 grams. It measures 19 centimeters in length, 12centimeters in width, and 1.2 centimeters in depth.

Two of the main features that Galaxy has over Apple’s iPad are that the Galaxy can make phone calls and it is a way lighter. Samsung said that the Galaxy Tab a product that people on the o can use, while iPad is for the living room.

The Galaxy Tab is the first hopefully not the last tablet form Samsung.

Samsung is yet to unveil the pricing for the Galaxy Tablet.
