Researchers develop medicines for Alzheimer’s illness

Alzheimer illness

According to researchers, they are developing new medications for Alzheimer’s disease that are competent to extend the lifespan of the patients.

In addition, researchers use mice prone to developing Alzheimer’s and showed that activating sirtuin inhibited the illness and that destructing sirtuin made it more ill. The research was conducted by Leonard Guarente, Gizem Donmez and co-workers at the Massachussetts Institute of Technology.

They said that it increases the hope of medicating Alzheimer’s illness and probably other neurodegenerative illnesses like Huntington’s and Parkinson’s, with medicines that active sirtuin. Moreover, those researchers that do not involved in the research also agreed with what they said.

According to Dr. Dennis J. Selkoe, expert of Alzheimer’s disease at Harvard Medical School, that the research is scientifically convincing story that links the sirtuins to the biology of Alzheimer’s illness. However, the significance of therapeutic stays quite not acceptable.

In addition, Dr. Juan C. Troncoso, another expert at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, said that the findings are open a very good path, but it is not exempted in a more technical challenge. Moreover, medicines that stimulate sirtuin already exist, such as resveratrol, a small ingredient of red wine and other foods and tiny-molecule chemicals planned to imitate resveratrol.

Furthermore, Sirtris, the company that creates the medicines, is examining them against diabetes and other illnesses. In addition, this creation do not cross the blood-brain wall so it will not work opposed to Alzheimer’s illness.

However, George P. Vlasuk, the chief executive of Sirtris said that their company has created other sirtuin-activating chemicals that can access the brain. Vlasuk also added that they think it has very important ability in neurodegenerative illnesses.

Moreover, Sirtuin has been the matter od strong study in the past few years because it looks like to defend the different body organs against illness by stepping up protection programs.
