According to President Asif Ali Zardari of Pakistan, once the floods decline, billions more will be required to reconstruct buildings and bridges and to get people back to work and it will also take up to two years for the country to get better.

The Secretary General of the United Nations, Ban Ki-moon, asked foreign donors to expedite help to the 20 million victims affected in the flood disaster in Pakistan. Furthermore, Mr. Ban said that he will never disregard the devastation and distress he has seen.

Mr. Ban also said that he already seen several natural disasters all around the world but nothing like what had happened in Pakistan. Moreover, the secretary general gone to Myanmar after Cyclone Nargis hit there in May 2008 that killed approximately 138,000 people.

Two months earlier, he took flight to Sichuan Province in China; simply days after an earthquake killed almost 90,000 people. Mr. Ban’s commentary also revealed broad concern about the relating disaster in Pakistan.

In addition, the floods, which started more than two weeks ago in the northwest part, have strike about one-quarter of the country, particularly its agricultural region. Although the death toll of roughly 1,500 is quite small, the level of the flooding and the number whose lives have been disturbed are astounding.

Furthermore, on Saturday, the prime minister stated that 20 million victims had been made dispossessed. However, the United Nations has requested for an initial $460 million to supply assistance, but only 20 percent has been given.
