President Hamid Karzai told the nation that the Afghanistan government will be a totally independent nation by 2014.
Afghanistan is one of the nations attacked by the US-led allied forces after the September 11, 2001. After the so called liberation of the nation, US and allied forces stayed there to perform order and security from threat of the Taliban, a group the US accuses as responsible for the 9/11 attack.
Nine years after the invasion of the Afghanistan, construction, training, and preparation for self-rule are on the agenda and program by the United Nations and North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) who handles the Nation security.
In October 29, 2009, President Hamid Karzai was elected President after so many years that they were under the rule of the Taliban and Islam. Afghans believe it is the beginning of seeing Afghanistan as ruled again by its government.
US President Barack Obama in his speech said that the U.S. will begin withdrawing its troops but the commitment of the country to help Afghanistan will extend beyond July 2011. The U.S. and other international partners agreed on a roadmap for Afghan forces to take the lead in securing the nation by 2014.
US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton as she visited Kabul told the reporters that the “transition process may be able to begin by the end of this year.” Britain’s Foreign Secretary William Hague echoed Clinton’s statement and call that the transition should start soon. This was also reiterated by NATO Secretary-General Andres Fogh Rasmussen last April saying transition was likely to start before the end of the year.
Afghanistan’s goal is to have by October 2011 about 171,600 Security Forces and 134,000 Police. This is the nation’s preparation for security and stability. Although, there are reports of continues attacks, all are looking for the 2014 transition and control of the Afghan government of the whole Afghanistan.
