Team USA overpowered team Angola at the world basketball quarterfinals Monday.
The game ended with the score 121-66, in favor of the victorious Americans. Team USA finally had the look of a champion on their match with Angola, playing way above what they showed during their two previous games.
Forward Kevin Love said in an interview that wanted to stay humble, however, at the same time should know and think that they can win the game. He added that regardless of what people are saying the they are still crowd favorites, they should play and act like they are.
Billups scored 16 out of his 19 points in the first half, while Durant scored all of his 17 points in same half. Team USA showed impressive performances overwhelming Angola from the start until the end of the game.
Durant, speaking for the team said that they do not want to be a team that is turning it on and off. He said that he thinks they are playing a little more sense of urgency when they know that they have to go home if they lose. He also added that his team seemed to have awakened from a bad dream after their last two games.
The Americans’ offense help made the Angolans have turnovers that resulted to easy baskets for the Americans. The Americans shot 18 out 38 three-pointers, a record for a team having scored three-pointers in the world championship game.
Eric Gordon and Rudy gay provided team USA with 17 points each that helped them advance in the quarterfinals. Team USA is scheduled to face Russia, who defeated New Zealand, 78-56.
The Americans seemed lacking of focus on their previous games, mainly because they are very certain of their advancement.
However, they appeared sharper and seems to have raised their overall level of play after days of practice,
Billups said that this is what they have sacrificed their summers for.
