Samsung unveiled Fascinate on Verizon this week, making the Galaxy S smartphone now available on the four major wireless providers in the US.
Samsung had already introduced Galaxy S on the other three wireless carriers earlier. The launching of Fascinate on Verizon makes the Android-based Galaxy S smartphone available on each of the four major wireless providers.
This approach is against the trend of having exclusive devise relationships with just a single wireless carrier. This will also allow Samsung to broaden the possibilities of distributing the devices to the consumers, and maximize the sale of its Android smartphones.
More than a million Galaxy S units has been sold, even before Samsung made the smartphone available from Sprint, or even from Verizon, the largest of the four wireless providers.
Samsung Galaxy S smartphones share the same core. However, slight differences are present between the AT&T Captivate, T-Mobile Vibrant, Sprint Epic, and the Verizon Fascinate. That means that the devices are unique and are still exclusive to their wireless carriers.
Samsung’s move may give a hint to other manufacturers. Experts said that Apple might double iPhone’s sales if it is to end its exclusivity with AT&T, offering the most wanted device nowadays, to other wireless providers. In support to the analysts’ theory, a recent survey stated that many consumers are willing to move to Verizon if it as to offer iPhone with their service. The survey also illustrates that many Verizon Android users would switch to iPhone if offered.
Iphone has dominated the smartphone market, although it is only available with AT&T, experts said that they could not imagine its sales if it would be available on the three wireless providers as well. Motorola was also successful with its Droid series with Verizon. That fact made experts wonder why it is not offering the same with T-mobile, Sprint, and AT&T to achieve what the iPhone is getting today.
