Danielle Covarrubias of Pierce County, Washington, wants American Airlines to pay him $5 million because the airline has violated the agreements on luggage fee.
Many of the fliers hate paying for checked bags, and Covarrubias was one of the travelers that get frustrated by a lost bag and by the fee. She is now taking the airline to court. However, American Airlines is arguing Covarrubias’s version of the events and her insistence that travelers can always request for refund of the fee as part of a baggage claim.
According to the court papers, Covarrubias said that she paid $25 to check the bag with the American Airlines for trips from Seattle, Washington, to Grand Rapids, Michigan, but the bag was lost when she arrived.
Furthermore, the complaint also stated that during the next 24 hours Covarrubias called the American Airlines to learn the status of her bag. The contents of the bag were worth $800 and she spent an extra $300 for new toiletries and clothes.
On the other hand, the American Airlines argues that the incident occurred on a trip from Chicago, Illinois, on the second trip to Michigan. Tim Smith, the spokesperson of American Airlines, said that because the trip was repealed the American Airlines booked Covarrubias on a different airline.
Smith also said that when Covarrubias landed in Grand Rapids and found out that her bag was missing, she talked on the different airline about the issue. Smith also added that the bag was found and brought to Covarrubias the next day by the representative of the airline.
In addition, the American Airlines has not been able to discover any information of Covarrubias ever speaking or acquiring to American Airlines about the delayed arrival of Covarrubias’s bag, checked bag charges, or a probable claim.
