Seniors Ask for Higher Doze of Flu Vaccine

People who were on their senior years in Brevard County are hoping to get a higher doze of flu vaccine for additional protection.

Seniors who are older than 65, are the target of a new flu vaccine. It consists of three viral influenza vaccine like of the regular shots given by health workers to protect patients against deadly respiratory illness.

The safety profile of the high-dose vaccine is likely similar as of the two regular shots but the two differs in prices. Center for Disease Control and Prevention are still in uncertain if the high doze vaccine can really offer a better protection against deadly flu, this is a question that need to surpass a series of examination and researching to be completed until this coming 2012.

This made this shot an optional choice for everyone; people still have their decision whether to choose the regular vaccine or the high-dose one. According to CDC the high-dose shot cost around $45, almost double the price of a regular flu shot, the good thing about it, the Medicare of a person covers it.

Health workers are not yet sure about the protection that the higher dosage vaccine can provide to a person, the reason why the health director in Brevard County, Dr. Heidar Heshmati said that they did not order high-dose vaccine until they receive a result that shows the effectiveness of the vaccine. That’s when they will consider using the flu shot.

Miranda Aiken, purchasing director for MIMA, said that the area is now experiencing and facing its flu season, and the largest physician group in Brevard County is now intends to use and try the high-dose vaccine on this season.  They try to offer this to some patients for an additional protection.

However, public health officials say this vaccine is not medically recommended to people who suffer allergies from eggs and for infants who are younger than six months-old like in regular flu vaccines.

Take That’s Barlow, Williams come together performs together for charity

Gary Barlow and Robbie Williams were reunited in a performance on Sunday for the first time in 15 years, as they sing their latest single Shame at a benefit concert in London to raise funds for British troops.

The two were former members of the hit British boy band Take That before Williams departed from the group in 1995 to pursue a career as a solo artist.

Williams, 36, has made it big being a solo artist as he became a household name; however, his success declined in the most recent years, while Take That’s comeback in 2005 has gained positive appraisals, earning a success for the band without Williams.

In addition, Williams told the crowd of about 55,000 people at Twickenham Stadium, which includes Prince Harry, Queen Elizabeth’s grandson and who also served in Afghanistan with British forces that it has been 15 years in the making before the event happened.

Also, he said that his wife calls him his boyfriend, and Williams calls him his captain, Mr. Gary Barlow. Barlow, Williams’ former bandmate came up to the stage to do a duet that ended years of rumor among fans and in the British media.

Last month, Williams said that he and Take That are planning to have a tour in 2011, even though the reunion of the band is anticipated to be momentary.

Subsequently, Williams concluded the show by singing his hit song Angels.

The event was made possible to help the Help for Heroes charity to raise funds to support soldiers what were wounded in action in Afghanistan.

Furthermore, some performer that was highlighted on the event was Spanish singer Enrique Iglesias, who sings Hero. Also, James Blunt, Katherine Jenkins and Plan B were among the other artists that participated in the charity concert.

A Big Explosion at San Bruno

Flames continuously rage at San Bruno, California which was caused by a loud explosion.

Authorities are now making moves to extinguish the big explosion that took place at San Bruno that resulted in to a big fire. As of now, the cause of the explosion remains unidentified, but it is seems to be a gas station explosion.

Fire crews from distant cities as well as agencies are sending out every single fire crews they have and other necessary equipment available. Four air-tankers were dispatched to help together with two smaller attack planes and more or less 25 fire engines from the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection.

According to witnesses, the explosion sounded extremely loud and terrifying. They have added that it was like seeing gigantic fireballs when it happened. One of the witnesses was Leigh Bishop, staff pastor at Church of the Highlands in San Bruno. According to him, he though the blast happened right behind their church building so he ran in to activate the building’s fire alarm to get everyone out of the church.

Residents affirmed that the impact was felt as if an earthquake struck when the blast took place. South Korea offers aid for the flood-hit North Korea

South Korea offers 10 billion won ($ 8.4 million) to help in the recovery of North Korea from recent flooding.

South Korea proposes the aid and considers it as the first step in helping the northern neighbor after the event concerning the sinking of a South Korean ship allegedly by a North Korean warship and sanctions made by the U.S. against North Korea. The proposed aid came after the U.S. added new sanctions against the northern country.

The Red Cross in Seoul made the offer. It was communicating with the Red Cross based on Pyongyang to help the flood affected North Koreans. Officials invested the aid in giving relief goods, medicines, and emergency supplies to the people of North Korea. The southern country is waiting if North Korea will accept the offer. Furthermore, they said that they would be providing additional aids as needed with the call coming from North Korea. The South Korea cannot make any action unless the North Korea authorizes it.

The continuous rainfall in North Korea in July and August brought flooding in the low land in the country. The northwestern part of the country and the city of Sinuiju suffered most of the flooding. More than 5,000 people evacuated to the neighbor country of China. Flooding affects mostly agricultural and farming lands. This had brought both economic and health problems to the country.

China had been helping the country with large amount of aids. North Korea considers China as its remaining large ally country. A recent visit of President Kim to China had made many issues including nuclear programs. However, the officials claim that the meeting was rather in economic terms and strengthening the tie between their nations.

The U.S. has expanded its sanctions against North Korea last Monday. U.S. officials claim that they were cutting off the trade between them and North Korea.

U.S. home sales lowest in 15 years

Sales of formerly owned U.S. homes have taken a record fall in July to their most sluggish rate in 15 years, highlighting the struggle of housing industry to strengthen its market without any help from the government.

The report came from National Association of Realtors (NAR) on Tuesday, which signifies data worse than market anticipations, was the newest statistics that specified economic activity persisted to loosen over the third quarter of the year.

Moreover, the NAR stated that overall profits were at their lowly since it began the existing-home market statistics series back in 1999, with one-family house deals that account for most production at their lowest since 1995. Also, Association chief economist Lawrence Yun said that general sales were the weakest since 1995.

Furthermore, Chicago Federal Reserve President Charles Evans warned the threats of a double-dip slump were greater than six months ago, as the depressing sale statistics came. He also suspected that production will essentially shrivel but upturn will be modest.

Meanwhile, Paul Dales, a U.S. economist at Capital Economics in Toronto stated that it is becoming obviously clear that the housing industry is deflating the presently wavering wider economic upturn. With double-dip prices of home becoming remarkably inevitable, things might get a lot worse.

Existing home incomes plunged a record 27.2 percent from June to a yearly rate of 3.83 million units. Also, sales from June modified drop to a 5.26 million-unit rate from an earlier report of 5.37 million.

Last month, financial industry had anticipated sales to decline only 12 percent to a 4.70 million-unit pace. The conclusion of a popular home-purchaser tax credit that had maintained sales and home-structure action persists to bother the problematic housing-market.

Also, the rate of insuring the U.S. home-manufacturers’ debt increased. The U.S. dollar declined to a 15-year low in opposition to yen and plunged against the euro.

Transocean: BP withholds data about Deepwater Horizon oil spill

British Petroleum (BP) is hoarding information and test results regarding the Deepwater Horizon blowout, said a Transocean’s official on a signed letter.

The letter, signed by the acting co-general of Transocean, Steven L. Roberts, states that the Transocean’s investigation on what caused the oil spill that killed 11 people including nine Transocean employees, is being held back by BP’s refusal to deliver “even the most basic information” about the event.

“[I]t appears that BP is withholding evidence in an attempt to prevent any entity other than BP from investigating the cause of the April 20th incident and the resulting spill,” the letter states, and it goes on to demand a long list of technical documents and lab tests.

BP denied the charge. “We are disappointed that Transocean has opted to write a letter with so many misguided and misleading assertions,” spokesperson Elizabeth Ashford said. “We have been at the forefront of cooperating with various investigations commissioned by the U.S. government and others into the causes of the Deepwater Horizon tragedy.”

The risks are high for the two companies. The Justice Department targets the companies on a criminal investigation. Both companies sent witnesses before an investigatory panel led by the Coast Guard, the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, Regulation and Enforcement (formerly the Minerals Management Service). A presidential commission is also looking into the oil spill investigation, and is expecting a report on the accident from BP.

Throughout these events, in an effort to plug and kill the well, BP continues to lease a Transocean ship and two Transocean drilling rigs. The situation has become more complicated. After extensive debates, government scientist and BP engineers decided to remove the infamous blowout preventer on top of the well. In that case, BP can assure the government that it can recover the massive contraption without creating new problems with the well.

Gulf Causes Problems, US Takes Action

Oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico brought the U.S. government to order a new environmental analysis to deep-water drilling.

Last Monday, the Obama administration ordered a new policy in creating new and continuing old operations of deep-water drilling across the Gulf of Mexico. Ken Salazar, Inferior Secretary, announced that an environmental impact statement for new deep-water drilling and a new environmental analysis for old operating deep-water drilling are now required for the Gulf of Mexico under the U.S. jurisdiction.

Salazar also added that this is to help provide information to guide future leasing and development decisions. Furthermore, he stressed making this new approach at the National Environmental Protection Act process, as an option to further manage and supervise these offshore activities in light of the increasing levels of complexity and risk, and the consequent potential environmental impacts.

The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, Regulation and Enforcement that manages the nation’s natural gas, oil and other mineral resources and regulates offshore operations will use the information and reports from these additional requirements and hold any accountable to any recurring incidence.

The explosion from the Deep Horizon, a drilling platform in the Gulf of Mexico, happened last April 20. The incidence killed 11 workers and poured about 205 million gallons of crude oil into the gulf. The spill was extensive that it reached far across the east of the gulf exposing marine life to toxicity of the oil. Subsequently, US made restrictions on fishing for safety concerns. Eventually, the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration and the Gulf states lifted the restrictions in accordance with a temporary solution to the oil spill.

The oil company BP provided measures in managing the oils spills. At the time of the eruption of the oil spill, BP covered the area around the Deep Horizon with more than 1.8 million gallons of chemical dispersants. The chemical will combine with the oil, eventually breaking the oil into droplets small enough that marine microbes can absorb and digest. Moreover, BP managed covering the well in mid-July preventing further oil spills and compensating the victims of the incidence.
