Affleck’s sex harassment case to be extended

Casey Affleck

Lawyers of actor Casey Affleck and another of the girl charging him with sexual harassment throughout the shoot of a documentary by Joaquin Phoenix have filed court documents that extend a key deadline in the case by one month.

Rumor has it that both parties are talking resolution. Marty Singer, Affleck’s lawyer said Friday that there are no settlement negotiations on the way. Meanwhile, Brian Procel, the lawyer who embodies producer Amanda White and cinematographer Magdalena Gorka, refused to give remarks.

However White, the earliest to charge Affleck for $2 million on July 23, was programmed to present her opposition brief on Monday to Affleck’s proposal to shift the case from Los Angeles Superior Court to private adjudication. Moreover, that deadline has now been pressed back one month to September 9and no reason was specified in the provision.

Extensions in heated court case are frequently discussed to give time to work out differences and resolve a case. However, just as frequently, attorneys look for added time simply because they need it to plan a brief.

Perhaps unintentionally, the latest deadline is the day prior to the scheduled U.S. premiere of “I’m Still Here: The Lost Year of Joaquin Phoenix,” which will debut at the Venice Film Festival in advance. If some type of resolution is made before then, the cases could be discharged. However, if not, they could draw on in public, even as the Magnolia Pictures motion picture made its way to theaters.

As far as one can recall, White and Gorka alleged that they abandon the development after continuing recurring sexual harassment by Affleck, who is wedded to Phoenix’s sister. White stated that Affleck forced her to stay in a hotel room with him, and Gorka pronounces Affleck creep into bed with her as she slept.

Singer has denied the allegations and calls them part of a plan to extract money from Affleck. The filmmaker in addition has threatened to countersue.
