Minority Leader John Boehner Criticizes Approval of Islamic Mosque Plan in NY

The proposed $100 million project of building an Islamic center and religious mosque near the 9/11 World Trade Center site in New York, which already received approval, earned criticisms from top Republican.

According to the Minority Leader John Boehner that the issue being pressed at this time, was not a question about law and religious freedom of any race, but, for them it was a basic issue needed to put some respect regarding to the tragic moment happened in the 9/11 attack that became a part of the U.S history.

Top Republican members criticized that the decision of letting the Muslim center to be build in the location was a major mistake the government was to make.

Building a mosque and Islamic center near in the site where the 9/11 attack occurred became a national issue, after the proposed plan was been approved by the city commission. President Barrack Obama, was on the side supporting the Muslim group with their aim to build their Islamic center, however, he cleared his side that he was not endorsing the World Trade Center site, to be the proposed location to build the Islamic center.

The president’s statement last Saturday said that the country must need to treat all the individuals and any member of a group equally in accordance of the law, regardless of his religion and race. Mr. Obama added that Muslim group’s had the right to build their own religious mosque in any place in the states, but he had not proposed to build it near in the Ground Zero.

Some analysts say it was unwise to let the group build mosque near the site where 3,000 people died due to terrorist attack.

Last Friday, President Obama said in his speech that he had understood all the emotional issue been pressed for the Muslim community center plan, for him as a president he said people in all walks of life and all faith are welcome in the U.S. and must treated equally by the government.

Senate calls special session for the $600-M bill to stop illegal immigrants, Obama to sign it into law

The Senate called a special session and approved a $600 million bill to stop the flow of illegal immigrants Thursday, and President Obama will sign it into law on Friday.

Furthermore, President Obama had supported Congress to direct more money toward border security among protests from states surrounded by undocumented settlers and illegal drug trafficking. According to the chief sponsor, Senator Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., the measure will offer Janet Napolitano, Homeland Security Secretary, and Obama with the proper perspective and the funds needed to fight the violence and crime.

In addition, President Obama said that the bill will help defend communities across the country and along the border of Southwest. Obama also said that this new law will also support their partnership with Mexico in aiming the organizations of criminal and gangs that work on both sides of their borders.

On the other hand, the House Democrats had also called a special session, calling makers of law to go back from their summer break on Tuesday to approve the bill for border security and a $26 billion aid bill to maintain teachers and other workers publicly from being jobless.

Moreover, Donald Ritchie, Senate historian, said that it was simply the second time since the August break became legitimate policy in 1970 that the Senate had assembled. The first time was after the disaster of Hurricane Katrina in 2005.

The security measure of the border bill will finance the employment of 1,000 new agents of Border Patrol to be positioned at the dangerous places along the border. In addition, 250 more officers of Customs and Border Protection and 250 more agents of Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Furthermore, nearly one-third of the fund goes to the Justice Department to assist agencies like the DEA, the ATF and the FBI deal with the human traffickers and dealers of drugs.

Kagame leads the Early Poll on Tuesday

Paul Kagame, the president of Rwanda, led the early results of a poll on Tuesday.

The result on the poll is expected to return the post-genocide president for another term with a landslide. The supporters of Kagame went to the main football field of Kigali and celebrated the lead of Kagame together with fireworks and reggae music after the presidential election on Monday.

According to Chrysologue Karangwa, poll chief of Rwanda, Kagame won 92.9 percent on the votes that are reported. The results came from the 11 out of the 30 districts of Rwanda. The maximum score of his challenger was 4.9 percent, which is clocked by Jean Damascene Ntawukuriryayo of the Social Democratic Party (PSD).

The two candidates gained 1.5 and 0.7 percent, respectively. Kagame was very happy and he thanked the crowd for supporting. He said that he is very happy and thankful that the people made the right choice. He was already claiming his victory because of the result.

According to Kagame, he will continue working for the government and he will always set the country first before anything else. He said that it is the victory of the country and it is the victory of the Rwandan people. Before the celebration, officials announced that Kagame won with 96.7 percent of all the votes of the Rwandan people who are living abroad. The announcement sent the crowd and the supporters of Kagame in frenzy.

One of the singers from the stage in the main football stadium of Kigali said that it feels like victory. Singers hymn the anthem “Victory” which is made from the 2003 win of Kagame where he obtained almost 95 percent of all the casted votes.

Kagame said that the voting is very democratic. He said that the people of Rwanda are free to stand for election.

Venezuela, Columbia Presidents to Meet on Saturday

Hugo Chavez, the president of Venezuela, and the newly elected Columbian President Juan Manuel Santos will meet on Tuesday to talk about the diplomatic disagreement between the two nations on Saturday.

Last month, Venezuela broke off diplomatic relations with Columbia because of its accusation that Venezuela is protecting the rebels from the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Columbia and the National Liberation Army. Columbia said that these rebels have camps in Venezuela and they are accusing the country that it is protecting these rebels. However, all the allegations of Columbia are denied by Venezuela.

It is considered as the third time in three years that the relations of Columbia and Venezuela have been strained. Hugo Chavez froze their relations with Columbia after it has signed a military arrangement with the U.S. in 2008. During that time, Columbia conducted a raid against the leftist guerillas in the Ecuadorian territory.

The oath taking of Santos will be held last Saturday. He vowed to unify his country with his goals to provide prosperity and to end the leftist rebels in their nation. Nicolas Maduro, foreign minister of Venezuela, to test his diplomatic skills, attended the inauguration of Santos.

Maduro made a talk with his Columbian counterpart, Maria Angela Holguin. He wanted to deliver a positive message from their president. According to the message given by the president of Venezuela, they want to deliver a message of love and solidarity to the Columbian people, a message for the future and for hope. They also said that they want to lend a helping hand to the Columbian people. He said that he invited Santos to go to Caracas and if the president cannot come, he will be the one to go to Bogota. Chavez left a warning that disrespect to Venezuela and another false accusation will end their friendship.

Obama calls the attention of Congress to approve small business bill

President Barack Obama called again the attention of the Congress to approve the legislation for small businesses that the president said will help boost the economy of America.

Furthermore, the Small Business Jobs and Credit Act is held up in the Senate. President Obama said that it is essential to approve this jobs bill for small businesses in America, because most of the jobs are created here. He also said that small businesses have been particularly hard-hit by the economy.

In addition, the bill will permit the construction of $30-billion fund for lending. The Treasury Department will run the program that will bring ultra-cheap investment to community banks, described as those with less than $10 million in total resources.

According to a preliminary approximation from the Joint Committee on Taxation, the other important mechanisms of the bill will offer $12 billion worth of tax assistance for small businesses between 2010 and 2020.

Moreover, it will provide a slide of tax cuts for small businesses, to support both entrepreneurship and investment. The legislation will offer $1.5 billion in funding to state lending programs that cannot turn to clear state capitals for more cash.

President Obama blamed the politics that has discontinued the bill down. The president said that the minority in the Senate is blocking in the way to devote up or down vote on the bill. Suspensions mean agreements being put off and workers going without jobs.

Attorney General Expands the Investigation on the City Officials of Bell City

The attorney general of California ordered the city officials on Monday to turn over their financial records and pass a statement under oath on high salaries that caused resignations and public protests.

According to Edmund G. Brown Jr., attorney general who is running for governor, he is also looking for some irregularities with regard to the involvement of city officials to some absentee election ballots. He said that his office received several complaints and reports from the residents of Bell saying that the residents are asked to sign the absentee ballots and collected them. He said that the same allegations also appeared in the Los Angeles Times. Brown said that if the accusation to the city officials is true, this is considered as a serious violation of the state law.

According to the California Law, the absentee ballots must be sent through mail or it must be delivered in the polling place by the voters unless they are ill or disabled. According to Brown, past and present resident of Bell that was encouraged to sign the absentee ballots can call a toll-free hotline to report the incident. Brown said that he already subpoenaed the testimony of the city officials of Bell including the city council members. He ordered them to provide records to their pension benefits, gifts, outside interests, bank accounts, tax returns, and pay.

The statement of Brown said that state lawyers will obtain the statement of the officials under oath on August 19 and 20. According to reports, some city officials including Assistant City Manager Angela Spaccia, Bell City Manager Robert Rizzo and Police Chief Randy Adams resigned last month because of the reports that they are receiving a salary of more than a hundred thousand dollars each. Other officials also decreased their salary because of the protest of the people about their high salaries.

Rwanda Election Starts on Monday

The election on Rwanda started Monday which is the second presidential election since the 1994 genocide.

The polls opened at 12:00 a.m. and it will close at 12:00 p.m. President Paul Kagame, the current president, is expected to retain his power even if the results will not be visible on Wednesday.

Under the administration of Kagame, who became the president of Rwanda in 2000, the gross domestic product of the country has doubled in the past decade under the administration of Kagame. As of now, the country is experiencing a growth in its construction industry most especially in the Rwanda’s Capital of Kagali. The area is starting to improve and it is slowly turning into a modern city. According to the report of the transparency International Organization, Rwanda is recently ranked as the least corrupt nation in the region.

Rwanda also has the highest number of female members of parliament in the world. Kagame has a very good record when it comes to his administration but there are still some issues the surrounds his presidency. There are several grenade attacks reported in the country recently. Faustin Kayumba Nyamasa, an army Lt. General, was shot in the stomach outside his house.

The general survived and said that the Kagame administration is behind the attempt on his life. After a couple of days, a journalist named Jean Leonard Rugambage, who claims to have the evidence that will prove that the administration is linked in the attempt assassination, is also killed outside of his own house. After a few weeks, Andre Kagawa, the deputy president of the opposition Democratic Green Party, is found dead at the river bank with his head completely detached.

Human rights groups and critics said that there is no opposition in the election. The opposition parties are only props just to show democracy on the country.

North Korea Detains South Korean Ship and Crews?

North Korea is believed to hold the missing South Korean 41-ton boat and its crews after the ship penetrated the North Korea’s sea border.

Coast guard authorities in South Korea believed that their squidding vessel was been impounded by the North Korean government after the ship entered the restricted economic zone and border of the north. They also stated that the North Korean border prohibited foreign fishing boats to enter into their sea territories.

However, there is no direct confirmation been given by the North Korean government as of this time with regard to the allegation that they have impounded the South’s sea vessel.

There is a growing conflict between the two Korean countries, after the South Korea allegedly involved North Korea in torpedoing their Cheonan warship, which killed 46 of its sailors in March. However, the north government denied the allegation being thrown unto them, and they described South’s accusation towards them as a justification towards the joint military training f the South Korea with the United States.

After the result of the attack made by the North to South Cheonan warship, the military across the South Korea are now conducting joint naval exercises with the United States, which involves around 4,500 troops and over two dozen ships.

The ship had three Chinese crew members and four South Korean crews who were on board in the Daeseung 55. They left Pohang port in the South Korea and scheduled to go back to the seaport on September 10.

The South Korean fisheries had their contact with the people aboard in the ship, and the crewmember of the boat via phone satellite. The man stated that their boat was pulled to Songjin for crew interrogation in the eastern coast of the North Korea on Sunday. Afterwards, their communications with the crews are then cut off; they never heard anything about the crews after that.

South Korean government is hoping that their crews and ship will return safe into their country according to international laws.

Senate Confirms Kagan as 112th Justice of the Supreme Court

Elena Kagan is confirmed by the Senate as the 112th justice of the Supreme Court and the fourth woman in its history.

Based on the reports, the vote was 63-37 for the nominee of President Barack Obama to replace the retired Justice John Paul Stevens. In an uncommon practiced ritual reserved for the most historic votes, the senators sat at their desks and stood as they say “ayes” and “nays”. Kagan will have her oath taking at the court by Chief Justice John Roberts in Saturday afternoon.

According to President Obama, who is traveling in Chicago, Kagan will be a very outstanding Justice who deeply understands that her rulings will greatly affect the people of the United States and he also said that the addition of another woman to the Supreme Court is a sign that the country is continuously progressing. The President invited the newly elected Justice of the Supreme Court in the White House on Friday for a ceremony marking.

According to president Obama, the vote is a confirmation of her character, temperament, evenhandedness, open-mindedness, and determination to hear all the different kinds of stories and the knowledge to consider all the arguments.

Republicans and Democrats clashed over the nomination of Kagan. According to the Republicans, Kagan is a politically aggravated activist that will not dismiss her rule and opinions impartially. The Democrats defended Kagan and they said that she is highly qualified for the position and they believe that Kagan will make a difference and bring a note of moderation.

Kagan is considered as the first Supreme Court nominee for over 40 years without any experience as a judge and the oath taking will leave a mark in history where three women will be seated on the nine-member court together.
