New York City offers a pool made of repurposed garbage dumpsters to its residents as a part of the city’s third annual Summer Streets program.

The summer street program was an event that opens to people of all ages; the city will be closing down the Park Avenue from motorists and car vehicles. People are about to experienced three consecutive Saturdays of fun from August 7, 14 and 21. The park will be open to people, to play, walk, riding their bikes, watch live theater and swim to portable swimming pools

There were three pools located in the area, the city officials are distributing bracelets having a first-come first-serve basis, with an aimed that interested residents and swimmers can enter in the pool area in shifts.

Each pool is made from 8-by-22 foot dumpster surrounded by wrap around deck and the pools are having its own built-in water filtration system. Authorities forbade the people to take a deep dive into the pool because of its deep not exceeding to 4 ½ feet.

David Belt was the creative designer of the pool, and his firm Macro Sea produced the first pool made from dumpster in Brooklyn in the previous year. He got the idea from the people he observed swimming in a dumpster in the Grand Central. Although at first he thought the scene was a hilarious one, he made his own design with broader goals to achieve.

He said that having a portable pool in any part of the city municipalities that cannot afford to build up a park,  can generates to set this kind of portable pools. According to him, to have a pool in a neighborhood is not that expensive, it will be easy for the city to transport the pools from one neighborhood to others. He also said that portable pool is easier to maintain than of the permanent pools and it brings so much joy to people especially during summer season.
